2022 IASPM Canada Conference

Starting Over? Popular Music and Working in Music in a Post-Pandemic World / Repartir à zéro?

Online Conference, hosted by University of Western Ontario / Université Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada

May/mai 18 -19 & 24-25, 2022

French follows…

IASPM-Canada and the Working in Music research network (WIM) are pleased to welcome you to their joint 2022 conference, to be held virtually at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada.

For more than a year, the global pandemic has highlighted and accelerated the destabilization of practices and institutions of music making and partaking. The enforced hiatus from many aspects of public life offers a chance to evaluate music practices. Which have continued? Which ones will resume? Which ones may not return, at least not as they were? The IASPM-CA/WIM 2022 joint conference will explore these changing contexts of musical practice experience.

The conference will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. William Cheng, Professor of Music at Dartmouth College. Dr. Cheng’s most recent book, Loving Music Till It Hurts contains a series of case studies examining how moral discourses of music interact consequentially with other authoritative discourses, such as ability, gender, race, and class. We are also excited to present a plenary roundtable on the Canadian Live Music Association’s Closing the Gap study and a panel on the music industry in London that will be mounted in collaboration with the London Music Office. For more information about the conference program, see the conference website.

Note that you must be a member of IASPM (any regional branch or at the international level) to participate in this conference. Before registering, please ensure your membership is up to date. Early Bird Ends May 3, 11:55 PM EDT
