IASPM Canada / Working in Music 2022 Conference: Update!

The local arrangements committee, in conversation with organizing committee chair Richard Sutherland, and with input from Heather Sparling (host of last year’s IASPM-CA conference) have decided to move this year’s IASPM-CA/Working In Music joint conference online. 

Many factors figured into this decision. We concluded that holding the conference online will be safest in terms of public health and most equitable in terms of accessibility. We cannot predict how the pandemic will be unfolding at that point, we cannot predict which borders will be open or under what conditions people will be able to travel, and we do not want to be in a situation where people who come from outside Canada could become infected and required to quarantine far from home with consequent costs and complications in terms of travel, accommodation, medical care, and so on.

Following the model of last year’s IASPM-CA conference, we will stretch the conference out over additional days, and will not overlap with IASPM-US’s conference. Our plan now is to schedule conference events on the following days: Wednesday May 19, Thursday May 20, Tuesday May 24, and Wednesday May 25. (IASPM-US commences Thursday May 26.)
